Embracing What Is.

There is something I need to come to terms with; that my workouts and eating habits are not always perfect.

When I workout, I have the mindset that I have to “go big or go home”. I have to be able to put 100% into it or it is not… well it is not worth it. This is my biggest problem when I have tried to lose weight in the past and workout. If I don’t feel my best, if the kids are around, if I’m busy, well I just give up and skip it. A crap workout isn’t worth it.

How wrong have I been?!

I’m a stay at home mom. I always have 1-3 kids around me. I am never alone. I am busy, I have a house to take care of, a family to feed, a business to run, a blog to write, a life to live. I will probably never get a “perfect workout”. And that is totally ok.

It is ok when I have to push pause to change a diaper or get someone a snack or drink, it is ok when I don’t feel good and complete a workout, it is even ok when I don’t / can’t give it my 100%, or if I even skip a workout.

Do you know what does matter? That I get up and try. That I give it the best I can in the moment, even if that moment doesn’t last the whole workout dvd.

I have “mom workouts’. My focus isn’t 100% on the workout, but I am still getting up and moving, I am still being active, I am still being healthy, and I am still setting a good example for my kids.

I’ve let go of what I think my workouts should be and embraced what they are. And I am better off for it.

January 1st I started on this journey (yes I know, I’m one of those people that had to wait for January 1st to start something), I made this journey my own! I made up my own Workout Schedule, I didn’t follow what the dvd’s recommend, I did it on my own, the way I wanted, I embraced the good workouts along with the bad. And because of all this I have never felt so good! For the first time I am actually losing weight. I feel better. My clothes fit better. I sleep better (when my daughter gives me the chance). I have less headaches. I’m eating healthy. Most of the time.

When it came to eating healthy I had to take the same approach as my workouts. Take the bad with the good. The apple with the chocolate, the soup and a bowl of chips. I had to let go of the idea of perfection. I eat healthy, but I also eat some not so healthy things. I allow myself to snack and don’t feel guilty about it.

I am embracing what is, and my “mom workouts’ and random snacks, and I am feeling better and better every day.

Back At It

Hello New Day.
Hello New Week.
Hello New Adventure.

HelloMonday

After taking off some time to fully enjoy summer vacation with my kids, and also to give my husband time to fix my computer, I am finally back at it. You don’t realize how much you use and would miss your computer until you can’t use it. I’m not usually one to become attached to an object, but when its my computer and holds my photos, internet and my work – my outlet, I miss that.

So here we are. Two weeks into summer vacation and I am happy to say my children haven’t driven me completely crazy yet. We have been having a fun, low-key, relaxing time. I want to keep this theme of relaxation going all through summer vacation.

So here are my goals for this week.

Family

1. Get the boys on some sort of chores schedule. As much as I am for letting kids be kids and enjoy summer vacation, I am also for kids learning responsibility, and helping out around the house.
2. Read together every day. We have all been so worn out by the end of the day lately that we have been skipping family reading time.
3. Meal plan and have everyone help out with cooking.

Home

4. Keep the house clean and tidy. Get back into the habit of setting the timer in the evening and having everyone tidy up.
5. Finish cleaning and organizing and going through the giant pile of work and art work they brought home from school.

Personal

6. Workout. I have been SO bad on this lately. I’ve been going for walks, but that is about it. And I have put it off so long that it is affecting my mood, and that is just not good. I don’t like feeling this way.
7. Write. Not just for my blog, but for myself. Whether it is in my journal, or just writing for the sake of writing.
8. Relax. So much easier said than done. With the boys home all day and baby girl still never sleeping, I have not been alone since the boys started summer break. I have been having a hard time unwinding. Even though we are having a relaxing summer vacation, I still crave that time on my own to unwind and be on my own, even for just a few minutes.

Work

9. Write. Plan. Create.
10. Take chances. Leave my fear behind me and dive in.

Do you have any plans for this week? Or are you just soaking in all the summer vacation you can?

On a side note, remember a few weeks ago one of my goals was to stop biting my nails? I finally did that. Now if I could stop breaking them! Score 1 for me!

Less Screen Time. More Talking.

Hello New Day.
Hello New Week.
Hello New Adventure.

HelloMonday

Oh Monday, we meet again.
Last week honestly when by in a blur. The weekend even faster.

I am happy to say that I did manage to get a lot done. Including the kids toy room. It took us 4 hours. 4 long hours. We cleaned, we organized, we vacuumed, we mopped, we moved shelves around, we threw stuff out, we got stuff to donate. It feels so good to have finally accomplished this. As sore as I am after doing this, it really gives me motivation to do more.

We have also been doing less screen time, for everyone. I love this. If I am going to be honest with you, its been hard. There are some days when I just want to let the electronics take over, give myself a break and all that. But the screens aren’t worth it. I love seeing the boys imaginations grow even bigger each day. Also the conversations, so many conversations. Some deep conversations, some totally random, all over which leave me scratching my head and wondering where on earth my kids come up with this stuff!

So for this week, lets see what I can accomplish.

Family Goals

1. Continue with less screen time for everyone.
2. Read together more.
3. Talk more. Stop rushing. Just be in the moment.

Personal Goals

4. Workout. 4-5 times this week.
5. Get back in touch with my creative side.
6. Finish projects. Stop starting so many at once!

Home Goals

7. Keep the toy room area clean! (And the boys still need to work on the laundry skills, mostly putting dirty clothes in the hamper and not ALL OVER the house)
8. Finish organizing and moving stuff around. Organize the boys bookshelves.

Work Goals

9. Get organized and have a plan for Summer.
10. Take more risks.

All that seems simple enough? Right?
At least I have a week to accomplish it all.

What do you plan to accomplish to this week?

Chapter 6

Hello New Day.
Hello New Week.
Hello New Month.
Hello New Adventure.

HelloMonday

Monday, we meet again.
This weekend was a rainy gloomy cold weekend, the rain seemed to have washed away all my motivation. All I want to do is curl up with a blanket, a warm cup of tea and a good book. Which we all know isn’t going to happen. So lets hope this week I can find my motivation.

Last week I set my usual goals. I failed miserably on two of them, biting my nails and setting up a timer a night. None of that happened. Not even a little bit. Where am I? Sitting in a sea of toys and missing my nail polish. So lets see what happens this week. I am very happy to report that we did cut down on screen time! It’s amazing how much a child’s imagination grows when not distracted by a screen. My son read an entire book laying outside in the shade. Hope to see more of that this week.

So here we go…

Family Goals

1. Less screen time. More family time. More reading.
2. Set a timer in the evening and have Family Tidy Up Time.
3. Meal plan together. Stick to the meal plan. Cook together.

Home Goals.

4. Finish with the kids play/toy area.
5. Plan out my picture wall. (I’m so horrible with this. I still have frames from Christmas that I have yet to fill.)

Personal Goals

6. Workout at least 4-5 times a week. Eat healthy. No stress eating.
7. Stop biting my nails. Seriously.
8. Just Breathe.

Work Goals

9. Set aside dedicated time. And stick to it.
10. Have more faith in myself.

Even though I have zero motivation with this cold and rainy weather I still have high hopes for this week and for the whole month of June.

What do you have planned for the week?
